Cops wrap-up investigation into Dr M over Malay Proclamation campaign


KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has wrapped-up its investigation into former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for allegedly insulting the royal institution.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the investigation paper on Dr Mahathir had been completed and would be referred to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) on Tuesday (June 6).

"We have completed the investigation involving Dr Mahathir pertaining to the case of insulting the royal institution.

"We will refer the matter to the AGC in line with article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution," she said in a statement on Saturday (June 3).

Investigations involving PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP's Dr P. Ramasamy in connection with the Malay Proclamation campaign were still ongoing.

"We are still in the process of recording their statements," she said.

It was reported Bukit Aman questioned Dr Mahathir on Friday (June 22) afternoon for activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy over the Malay Proclamation campaign.

Dr Mahathir had his statement recorded by the Bukit Aman Special Investigation Unit (USJT) around 10.30am on Friday at the Albukhary Foundation (Yayasan Albukhary) in Kuala Lumpur.

The Malay Proclamation campaign by Dr Mahathir was to unite Malays and it lists 12 key issues faced by the community.

Several top leaders had signed the Malay Proclamation, namely PAS president Abdul Hadi, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, and Bersatu information chief Razali Idris.
